COMDaS online material database

COMDaS - Customer Online Material Data System

With COMDaS, material data can be accessed online. Together with Salzgitter Flachstahl, we actively support customers with material selection in the early stages of development. COMDaS provides comprehensive characteristic data relative to materials and enables users to correctly estimate the material’s potential and predict the behavior of the material and/or component through simulation. Through simulation, the experimentally obtained data can provide insight into the behavior of the material.

COMDaS provides the results of the following analyses:

  • Chemical analysis
  • Tensile test
  • Forming limit diagram
  • High-speed tensile test
  • Cyclical characteristic data

We conduct these tests according to standards and document the resulting data. The grades provided in COMDaS are characterized according to test specification for iron and steel (Stahl-Eisen-Prüfblatt, SEP1240), are representative of the SZFG range, and contain the latest types of steel for automotive construction.

COMDaS material data form the basis for meaningful forming simulations and are supplemented by program-specific material cards of popular simulation software programs (AutoForm, PamStamp, PamCrash, LS-Dyna). For more Information, please refer to:

Representation in standards committees

On the national level within Germany, we represent the interests of pipe manufacturers on various standards committees, including the specialized committees Eisen und Stahl (FES [iron and steel]), Öl und Gas (NÖG [oil and gas]) and Rohrleitungen und Dampfkesselanlagen (NARD [pipelines and boilers]) of DIN.

In European standards projects, we participate in the context of the activities of the European Committee for Iron and Steel Standardization (ECISS) and through collaboration with COCOR, the coordination committee of ECISS. On the international level, we sit and vote in the commissions ISO/TC67/SC2 Pipeline Transportation Systems and SC5 Casing, Tubing & Drill Pipe as well as in API SC5 Tubular Goods.

Preparing and providing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

Certifying energy efficiency and sustainability

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) make it possible to compare the ecological aspects of different construction products based on a specific application. Along with technical product information, EPDs include standardized characteristic data on the environmental effects of construction products based on specified life cycle assessments.

According to the German Construction Products Ordinance (BauPVo), the environmental compatibility and sustainability of newly erected buildings must be certified. One way to comply with the certification requirement is to prepare and provide EPDs.

For Mannesmann Linepipe we prepared EPDs for the following products:

  • MSH profiles
  • Oil country tubular goods (OCTG)
  • Oil and gas piping
  • Line pipes for conveying potable water, process water and wastewater

EPDs form the data basis for ecological assessment of buildings.

EPDs are published by the Institut Bauen und Umwelt e. V. (IBU).

Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)

We support you in the preparation of life cycleassessments (LCA)

LCA is the systematic analysis of the environmental impact of products based on a holistic view of all product-related material, energy and emission flows of a product over its entire life cycle ("cradle-to-grave" view) or one or more life cycle phases ("cradle-to-gate" or "gate-to-gate" view).

Depending on the objective, LCA's serve, for example, to analyse ecological weaknesses within individual life cycle phases (extraction of raw materials, production, use, etc.) or for the ecological comparison of different material concepts of products and their environmental impact on the product life cycle.

We use the industry standard life cycle assessment software of the automotive and steel industry, GaBi ts from thinkstep AG.
