Component and vessel testing

Analysis of safety, components and fracture mechanics

We analyze the integrity of your components during installation and in operation – with analytical and numerical methods while complying with currently applicable standards. Our investigations focus on component strength and formability, as well as toughness and fatigue characteristics. We determine the required preconditions in consultation with our customers.

Burst testing and internal pressure swelling testing of vessels

With DAkkS-accredited methods, we perform approval tests on gas cylinders (CNG) according to standards. We also conduct static and dynamic burst tests, including on airbag tubes and other components.

Collapse test

We perform collapse tests at up to 1,000 bar on thick-walled pipes or pipe rings for the qualification of deep sea lines.

With our portable 3D scanner, we measure the geometry, i.e. the deformation, before and after the test – well beyond the requirements of typical offshore standards.

High-pressure cycle test rig

Our test rig enables internal high-pressure cycle testing on cylinders with an inhibited water mixture. Both steel cylinders and fiber-wrapped cylinders can be tested.

With the new high-pressure cycle test rig, we carry out cyclical internal pressure tests up to 1150 bar internal pressure in our burst pit. Due to the constant pressure increase followed by a pressure decrease, e.g. the refueling processes of hydrogen tanks can be simulated.

The control technology was completely developed and implemented in-house so we can respond to individual customer requests and for example set different pressure levels or pressure holding times. A frequency of 0.5 to 10 load changes per minute can be achieved depending on the volume and pressure of test specimen.

In top of that we have the possibility to record the circumferential and longitudinal strain of the specimen during the test with the help of displacement transducers and/or strain gauges. The temperature can be monitored also during the test using thermocouples directly on the specimen. We test according to all current standards and according to customers specification.

Bending test of large pipes with and without internal pressure

For full-scale bending tests on large pipes, we have a pipe bending test machine unlike any other: the Limit State Analyzer (LiSA).
The machine is able to measure the limits of load-bearing capacity of large pipes on a 1:1 scale with a wide range of parameter combinations. High-strength X100 grade 56” pipes with wall thicknesses of up to 25 mm, for example, can be bent under high internal pressure load. Fatigue and operational strength analysis

We evaluate the fatigue strength of your structures based on stress and strain values whether from calculations or measurements. Whether you need low or high cycle fatigue assessments or the ultimate fatigue strength we have the expert knowledge. If wanted, we propose possible measures to extend the service life of your structures.

Operational stability of component-like specimens and actual components

In the material release process and/or in an early project phase of product development, only simple geometries with defined stress are tested. However, in order to ensure joining technology and/or material for an actual product, it is absolutely essential to verify properties on a component-like specimen and/or the actual component. This permits both the investigation of effects of complex loading and the validation of simulation models with characteristic data from simple test geometries.

Crash testing of component-like specimens in the drop weight tester

To verify material characteristics and joining technology properties on component-like specimens, analyses are conducted on the drop weight tester. By varying drop height and drop weight in combination with different bumper geometries and subjecting the specimen to variable clamping conditions, individual test conditions under crash loading can be implemented according to customer-specific requirements.

Autofrettage and burst testing on injection lines up to 14,000 bar

Based on many years of experience with the internal pressure testing of vessels and pipes in an extremely wide range of dimensions, we develop improvement suggestions for our customers and prepare engineering assessments.

Impulse test

On our impulse test stands, we conduct service life tests on diesel and gasoline injection lines – up to 4,000 bar at 15 Hz and up to 6,000 bar at 25 Hz.

FEM analysis on machinery and components

Do you need stresses and deformations for specific load situations to ensure the functionality of components, tools or complete machines?

We perform finite element simulations for new or existing designs and calculate stress and deformation states. In such cases, we consider realisic interactions between different components, such as preloads, restraints or threaded connections.
